I am in the process of ripping my M38 apart and noticed today that the felt pieces around the grill are coated with rubber. They are wired to the grill with the correct staples, and look original.
I thought they were just plain felt.

the black liquid rubber coating for tool handles works really good.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking, and also the spray on rubber undercoating I was going to try too.
