BYPASS HOSE

Post by JMZ421 » Sun Jan 22, 2017 8:53 am

I changed my M38 bypass hose with a Gates 20191. Now the original clamps cannot tighten enough. The old hose was thicker. Is there another make out there so I can use my original clamp? Thanks John

I applied some of the shink wrap tape for automotve uses over the entire hose and this gave me enough to grap. John

Check the dealers for OEM. Another reality to consider is that at some point OEM parts get obsolete or the lifespan expires and that cosmetics under the hood will have to change in order to remain functional. This includes hoses and clamps.
Bought mine from Jeep in the 70's anticipating obsolescence and thru surplus contractor such as Transportation Parts of New York. Not all M-38's had this hose, but had (Factory Tube) Tube, W.O. 805060 with two 5/16" Inverted Flare nuts and female connectors on the Water Pump and Cylinder Head. The 5/16" X6" Steel Tube was shaped into a 360 Degree Circle.

That rubber thin tape I used to build up the tubing is good for up to 500 Degrees and the package states the military uses it for various applications. Looks good also. Clamps are tight now with original clamps and no leaks. Thanks everyone John

Don't be surprised if the tape mushes out at some point.
