Was the m38 bumper filler painted or left raw wood when installed?

Don't know for sure but on both of my m38s, it was raw wood - Sonny

Of all of the Bumer Fillers I have pulled from M38s over the years, I'd have to say they were raw wood. I just finished mine in my restored M38 with boiled Linseed oil to preserve it.

I've made & sold tBumper Fillers in the past (along with other wood parts) and will be making more for the National show in Huntsville.

When Rod's bumper fillers appear again get one as soon as you can. I purchased one about eight years ago. Fit perfect, great old oak, reasonable price and rapid arrival. Can't recommend them enough.

Does anyone have a measured drawing for the piece? I made my own for my GPW from a JeepDraw drawing and it looks and works great. The M38 piece appears to be even simpler.

Did the oak just go in between frame rails? Not the out edges of the bumper also? Was the oak flush with the inside of bumper or did it stick out? Bolt in?

I bought one of Rod's wood fillers and it worked like a champ. It does fit between the frame rails and it does not stick out past the bumper. I did bolt mine and I also have a winch to deal with but the filler works and fit perfectly.
