I am a retired Air Force SP . As some of you know I may be purchasing a barn find M151A2 1970 . While I am working on this vehicl that I will probbaly purchase, does anybody know , or can anyone send me a link where I can get some ideas for markings ? I would like to represent the Air Force since most you see at shows and in parades art Army or USMC marked . I'm wanting to keep it in a camo paint scheme , just wanting to represent the AF .
Thanks,
snipertn

Snipe....
it isn't as straightforward as you might think.
A 1970 M151A2 would have been semi-gloss olive drab. Camouflage pattern painting wasn't introduced until August 1975. The war was over by then.
USAF M151s were little-used in comparison to US Army and Marine Corps vehicles and as such did not require full repainting for many years. I saw a USAF M151A2 at Mildenhall in the late 1990's and it was still in SG-OD.
So the short version is... if you want your A2 to represent the VietNam era, you'll need to paint it SG-OD.
Ken
ps... as it is your vehicle (or soon will be) you can of course paint and mark it whatever you want but if you want it reasonably accurate

Here is a manual for the Air Force markings. It covers all vehicles used by the Air Force and even though it is dated 11/88 and change 1993 the Jeep in it is a M38A1 and the car is a 67 Chevy.

When I was stationed in Germany, (Army 1975) we used MERDC but the Air Force was still OD. I probably have a couple pictures somewhere with an Air Force ground air control Jeep in the background.
