Sagging vinyl top

Post by MMann1557 » Fri Sep 16, 2016 1:17 pm

Was wondering if you could help me determine the reason my m151a2 vinyl top is sagging so much between the windshield and first support rod. This top came with it so I don't know any background. When I look at the windshield frame it appears to be from a M151a1....would that cause the sag? Maybe the top is for a different vehicle although it seems to fit other than the sag.

i have seen the vinyl tops sag on virtually every 151 they are on. if you prefer a tight fitting top, you might want to consider the expense of a canvas top from weebee webbing.

I have never seen a tight vinyl top. They make nice water containers after a rain storm, just make sure the first turn is to the left since they do not seal to the door any better than they look.

I just received a pair of doors I ordered and they don't line up with the windshield. If I remove the pin from the hinge mounted to the dashboard raise the windshield and reinsert the pin the doors line up and the sagging is gone. It is like the angle of the windshield is too sloped back if that makes sense. Are the windshield angles the same on the A1 and A2s?

The windshield angles are the same throughout all of the 151 models and all of the tops will interchange. The hinges are different between an A1 and an A2 so they need to be used as a top and bottom hinge from the set. If I remember correctly if you use an A1 hinge top and an A2 bottom or vice versa the pin will not go in at all, the holes do not line up.

Do check to see if the rubber seal under the windshield has not been removed. That would allow the windshield to lean back more than it should. Also the rubber might have compressed a bit with age. You might try a rubber shim to add some height back. Bob

The pins on the hinges are going to determine where the windshield sets. Even with no gasket it will set in the same place.
