Need help on M151A2 Jeep

Post by mg42charlie » Wed Aug 17, 2016 4:56 pm

Recently acquired M151A2 Marine Corps Mutt. Contract # (DAAE07-79-D-5016) Registration # (521026 D151-03169) Need help identifying year of manufacture and delivery date as it is not on data plate. This jeep escaped the cutting torch fate but was crumbled up with the boom of a forklift, supposedly had sat in a warehouse in California and was never issued to a unit. 77.9 miles on odometer. Can not post images due to size issues but can send via email to anyone willing to help.

Thanks, Charlie.

Do you have the numbers from the body tag on the transmission tunnel by where your right ankle would be when driving? The tag will be behind the lines there.

Sorry to keep you waiting, had to wait on brake fluid to soften up the paint. The numbers on the tag are as follows: (Top) 11639700 (Bottom) C151-26268

I have uploaded a few pictures as well. I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me the year of manufacture, like I said it wasn't supposed to be issued to a unit but I can not prove this. I can not find any unit markings on it other than the 22MEU on the tarp and 51006 on the right rear fender.

Thanks Again!
~Charlie

I sent a PM to Ken to bring this to his attention. He should get back to you soon with some information.

Peel back some of the wiring and look for a date.
Look at the circuit breakers for a date.
All of the items will give you an idea of its date

I would prefer not to peel back wiring, but if you could help me on finding the circuit breakers I would be willing to give that a try. PS: Im still new to the mutt world, I am a mule man myself.

Tried starting her for the first time Sunday. Took valve cover off beforehand and the internals were very clean, no sludge anywhere. Everything was very clean, put everything back together and tried to fire her up but only got her to run for a few short moments. Having problems with the fuel delivery system as I was having to spray gas into the carburetor with a spray bottle. When it did run it didn't smoke at all, ran beautifully and smoothly as long as I kept up the fuel supply.

I'd check the fuel filters(there could be one in the fuel tank, a fine mesh one in the carburetor inlet housing fuel.Maybe detach the fuel line from carburetor, do a volume gas test to see what it pumps out
change user name to mark

I got an e-mail back from Ken about your numbers, he said he reached out to you by way of PM but never heard back from you.
On the starting and running is the choke closing all the way? If so then pull the fuel line off and see if you are getting gas to the carb.

Got the paint scraped off of the data plate, now is this an 82 or a late 80/ early 81 as Ken suggested? Regardless, title is being applied for as an 8/82. Anyone have any knowledge on which it should've been/ should be?

I would go with what Ken said as far as the year of the vehicle. I have seen a fair amount of the newer horns go bad so that may have been a replacement.
