Data plate and Vin Number

Post by DBHIGHLANDER » Fri Apr 22, 2016 8:40 am

I am restoring my 1961 M151. I have a clear title for it Listing it as a 1961 1/4 ton truck Ford. The problem is that the vin number Listed and on the hood 2C 2050 can not be found any where else on the Vehicle.I have sand blasted stripped and checked every place mentioned where the VIN might be and come up blank. The original Dash Plate is long gone and the replacement that I got from the Reserve Unit has a different Number. I bought it in 1974 when I got off active duty and it has survived 3 boys and a daughter during that time , driving on 1,400 acres of national forest.

QUESTION can I get a new Dash Plate and how would I get all the needed markings and Correct VIN put on it.

This is a 61 M151 and can be seen under my picture posting
Can any one give me any information concerning my Mutt. It had 15,000 miles on it when I bought it VIN 2C2050

That number would only have existed on the original data plate. It was never part of the vehicle. The only place you would find numbers on your vehicle would be the cowl above the valve cover if it is a Ford or the frame rail under the edge of the grill if it is a Kaiser. And they will be body build numbers, not VIN numbers. And the numbers I mention will be on tags, not satmped in the vehicle. A metal tag for the Ford welded to the cowl and a foil tag on the frame rail.

The foil tag that RickF mentioned is for Willys / Kaiser Mutts. The early fords 1960-1962 had the body number riveted to the driver's side frame rail just under the radiator. The later ones had the body tag on the center of the firewall just under the hood/right above the engine. The "VIN" number aka serial number is the 2C 2050 and that would be the correct number for the dataplate. Just get a new plate, stamp those numbers along with a month/year of delivery and you are good to go.

I have reproduction data plates for the 1961 and the 1962 years that have the Ford Motor Company in the stylized ford script that was original for those years. You have to put in your date of delivery and your vin number everything else is in including the inspection stamp. If interested contact me and I can send pictures and pricing

I am sure that somewhere along the line I have asked this and you have answered, if so forgive me, I talk to hundreds of people and I tend to forget but how are you sure it is actually a 61 without any documentation and how do you have the numbers? Original hood numbers maybe?
