Mirror Blind Spot Modification

Post by dilvoy » Wed Mar 23, 2016 1:50 pm

City driving is hard with a Humvee and the left hand mirror was addressed with the advent of the lowered positioning to good effect, but that right hand mirror was always blocking my street view in intersections and around here we have all sorts of screw ball people around here. Runners, running into the street, bikers and people driving cars not stopping at stop signs so I figured that I'd try something out. I had noticed that my eye was always drawn to the flat portion of the right hand mirror, but that I would switch to the convex portion every time I looked at it, because it gave a better field of vision so I decided to remove the flat piece of mirror and cut out the body of the mirror that was behind it. I first used a pneumatic disc cutter to cut the basic outline of my hole and then I used a disk grinder to clean up the opening better to follow the shape of he mirror head a bit better. The mirror is made of a weird material and it just melts away so it is not pretty. Here is a shot of what I did.
