Neat project! The picture of your engine cover got me thinking. I was going to hack a hole in my stock HMMWV engine cover and then fab a piece to cover the Cummins, but it looks like a 6.5L TD cover would clear the engine. I need to find a H1 owner nearby that will let me try it on for size.

You will still have to modify the left side of turbo dog house cover just a bit.

There's a few cover available right now.steelsoldiers wrote:Neat project! The picture of your engine cover got me thinking. First is the only Military TD cover I've seen for sale. It's damaged but being fiberglass (or something similar to it) it should be fairly easy to fix up good enough.

Here's the broken piece for sale by itself. Pretty cheap actually. I'm pretty sure you could reuse all the parts from your old NA cover and just transplant them over to this one. You'd just need the insulation (which is around $90) or just make you're own insulation for much cheaper.

Re: H1 to H1HMMWVish thing
You definitely got the better windshield frame. When I arrived the weekend after you, the pickins were a bit slim. I am getting ready to send my sponsons, roof and few other pieces to get sandblasted, then I will prime them and set aside for now. Keep us updated on your progress. I will not dive in for a couple of more months on my slantback conversion.
Cheers,

Re: H1 to H1HMMWVish thing
I decided to start off by test fitting everything on the truck first. Basically going to build it up without any seals or sealant just to make sure nothing that needs to be straightened, fixed or tack welded gets forgotten before painting. I figure the easiest way to do that is just bolt everything up first, that way i can also start accumulating any hardware or extra small parts, seals, etc. I end up needing before hand and even get some experience on assembling it. Then when it's all freshly painted it should be a much smoother assembly process the second time around.
I still haven't decided what path/color to take but GeneseeMtn's HMMWV build that he's got for sale now is really making me want to go CARC green. I really like the green/black combo on the ibistek bumper and the green main color with the black rhino lined interior looks real sharp too. For my truck it would be easy to swap the color out now. I could either get the top painted in carc or get it powdercoated with a CARC 383 matched powder.....hopefully seeing the truck prebuilt in person will help sway me one way or the other before i need to make that decision.
