Re: M1037 Gets Updated!
Good morning, Ted. I want to clone your truck. A question on your HID lights, how much does the combination of headlights and the HID lights draw on your batteries with the vehicle running? I am a bit concerned my old 60 amp generator would not be able to sustain extended use of all the lights. Could the generator handle them or should I start stashing spare money for the more powerful models?
Thx

Re: M1037 Gets Updated!
Thanks on the truck compliment. It is my favorite of the dozens I've owned. Has 5,000 miles on it now.
66" HID are rated at 7.8amps @ 28.8 volts (IIRC) = 224.64 watts.
Make sure your generator is putting out 28 volts (they are adjustable). My generator is the 60amp unit set to 28.4 volts and the needle did not even move. I also had the driving lights on and the heater on high. Fresh batteries also help.
I do not use radios.

Thanks, looks like I am good to go with the generator just rebuilt and fresh batteries. Now, with my novice hat firmly on my head, just how do you tweak the voltage settings and did you fabricate those plates to close the gap between your half doors and the seat back?

Re: M1037 Gets Updated!
On the top side of the generator near the cover plate, there is a allen head plug. Remove plug and inside is a potentiometer. Rotate the pot to adjust voltage while engine is running and batteries are fully charged. Have a voltmeter monitor the voltage at the batteries. It is that simple.
The closeout panel is from the fixed halfdoor panels for 2 man hmmwvs. Just remove this panel from it and fit it in. I have a spare drivers side closeout panel here. pm me if you want to obtain it.

Thanks for the great info. If my truck ever comes back from painting, I'll adjust mine.Ted Gates wrote:On the top side of the generator near the cover plate, there is a allen head plug. Where did you get those sun shades?? I'm looking for a pair, and haven't had any luck... I'm assuming they are off of some other MV, is that correct?
Any guidance on where I might locate a set would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul

Ted, what would be the correct term to call those sun shades? Not having much luck searching for military vehicle sun shades or visors on eBay.Ted Gates wrote:EBAY! $60-$100 iirc
