At the risk of further reviving this thread . . .

The story about the modded Jeep was published in a book called "55 Miles To Terror"--it was a compilation of stories about motoring (sometime in the 60's I believe). Not sure where else it was published but if you find this book it'll have it . . . Regards, Dave K.

I read the story in a book from our public library, this one was titled 'The Wayward Jeep'. A bit over my head as a pre-teen, couldn't understand why they weren't built with V-8's to begin with, and why would someone be upset over the improvement. One of the other stories had to do with some teenage hot rodders trying to terrorize a Cleaver type family on the road to somewhere. 'Year of the Jeep' I came across a couple years ago. Kid finds a Jeep in a barn, revives it and drives into adventure. Never mentioned any trouble with the brakes :roll:
