Alternator in a Generator case
Has anyone had any experience using an alternator in a generator case? I found This website (http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/item_54 ... Ground.htm) that seems to have premade conversions. Will these work with my NOS voltage regulator? Which model would I need? I know they don't look perfect, but at this stage, I'm looking for reliability and driveability.

Re: Alternator in a Generator case
These have been around for a while. The farm tractor restoration guys love them.
Come in 6 and 12 volt flavors.
They do give the original generator look ( for a tractor, not a jeep ) and work very well.
The ones I have seen are one wire. Battery only. No field wire. That is the way the picture looked in the link you gave.
Suppose you could put a dumby regulator with the wires just for looks.

Re: Alternator in a Generator case
Hmm. I literally just bought a brand new NOS voltage regulator. Maybe I should just rebuild my genny....

Re: Alternator in a Generator case
That would definitely be an option. Be original and a lot cheaper than a $483.00 alternator/generator look a like. That would not look correct.

Re: Alternator in a Generator case
A few years ago, about the late 80's
I fitted a Nippon Denso 40 amp alternator into a jeep generator case but it involved a fair bit of machining to the case and turning up a new shaft to fit the alternator rotor and slip rings so it would go inside the generator. The gen case looked original from the outside and it was wired into the jeep reg box.
Worked a treat but i would be wanting more than $500 bucks plus all the parts to do it now.
Cheers
