12volt fender black out lamp
Hi,
Hope this is the correct section for my question. Does any one know where I might obtain an actual 12volt fender black out lamp. I believe they were used on tanks in WW2 possibly trucks. I believe Presto light made them. If not anybody have any ideas on converting a standard 6volt Black out lamp to 12volts. Thanks.
Ray

There was a circulation letter # 313 dated July 30, 1942 that shows the blackout kits for all kinds of vehicles, cars, trucks, motorcycles and tactical vehicles and all appear to use a 8-L-390 lamp with a 8-R-242 resistor with 8-B-243 resistor bracket for the 12v vehicles with an exception for the HD and Indian motorcycles having a 8-L-385 bulb. There are quite a few kits.

WWll blackout drive lights were 6-8 volts 15 watts. The dropping resistor for 14 volt operation is 3 ohms 25 watts wirewound . CC 925444 is the Dodge part number.

Tractor Supply has 12 volt tractor headlights that will fit in the blackout housing. That is how I got mine to working as I have my keep converted to a 12 volt system. They have the headlight lamp replacements. Works great! It is amazing that a lot of tractor parts work on these old jeeps and are identical in a lot of cases. I have a Massey ferguson floor starter in my keep and it is identical to the factory one and at half the cost of a new repro.
