Re: GPW "Nicknames"
I also read somewhere that the first letter of the names over the rear wheelarch usually had to match the company letter...

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
I have never named any of my collector vehicles. I currently have 2 1955 Fords, a '51 Chevy, a 69 Chevelle and a '42 MB Slat grill. Over the years I have also had about 20 Model "A" Fords. For some reason I thought the MB needed a nickname. Look underneath and you will see why it is now affectionately called "Dribbles". I have the name under the windshield and on the sides.

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
I was unsure of a nickname for my 42GPW. But it earned a nickname when I dropped the t-case for repair. The skid plate was full of Georgia red dirt from whence it came. The ole gal is now known as "Red Dirt Girl". I use white vinyl lettering drawn and cut out by hand. The vinyl allows me to remove and replace easily if needed.
I think it best that a name have some sort of meaning or reason. Makes it more enjoyable and besides, someone is going to ask you why you chose that particular name. You want to have a canned answer ready.

Hi Guys,
My 1942 jeep has been named "Jenny Ellen" in script in memory of my Gran. Makes the jeep part of the family!
I thought about airbrushing a scantily clad lady but I don't think my Gran would have appreciated it!
Regards
Steve

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
Hello Jeep lovers,
I have called my Script GPW "Blanche" after my grandma's name. The name is also matching the company' letter. I called my baby this way as my granny was the first person to see my jeep when I bought it 35 years ago, and her first reaction was:
"darn, what the %&"*@$ you gonna do with this car...." It was the first time I have heard her swearing...It was also my very first car... God blesses her both...
She shed a tear as the first time she saw a jeep was in 1944, symbol of the end of 4 year occupation...

Hi Guys,
I painted my Jeep Jenny Ellen in script in the centre of my windscreen, leaning over the hood which took me absolutely ages, but it gives it character!
Regards
Steve

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
It isn't painted on yet, but I'm going with Leroy. In my family it was the middle name for a WWI and WW2 vet, and the first name of a Vietnam vet. This way I don't need to choose which one to honor. Besides, it sort of rolls off the tongue.

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
Hey guys, I was hoping you could help me figure out a nickname. I don't own an authentic GPW or MB, but a 3A I'm doing a light conversation on as I didn't want to beat up a real veteran on the trail. I've accidently "sunk" it to the point where the water has come over the cowl about twice, and I feel it needs a nickname significant to these mishaps. So far I've been toying around with "USS...." but I'm not quite sure. Any suggestions for this little Jeep that still goes? I have a couple cool stories, just need a nickname for the conversation starter.

US submarines were mostly named after fish.
Albacore, Barracuda, Bass, Porpoise, Sturgeon, Bonefish, Cod, Flounder, Muskellunge, Lizardfish, you get the idea.

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
In my family we have a lot of women with the name Sue. So we always used nicknames or the First letter of their last name, in my case my wife was always called Sue P when we were dating so after finishing my GPW it only made sense to name it SOUPY. Regards Mike

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
I do like the idea of a submarine name. Barracuda sticks out to me but it just doesn't quite fit a little Willys. Maybe something like Unsinkable? R.M.S. Titanic? U.S.S. Titanic? An amphibian name would be neat too...

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
here is mine. I named it 'my love Dawn'. reason is this is my wife and she resisted the project from the start. still does to some degree but now that her name is on it she can't help but be somewhat accepting haha

Re: GPW "Nicknames"
HI,
I would like to keep my GPW away from ladies names as they are very common...Of course I like them but no for my jeep.
As I´m planning to paint my jeeop with markings of the 3Armored Division, 32nd Armor Regiment, I will paint the name ORIOLE over the rear wheel arches.
ORIOLE was the Radio Call sign of the 32nd Armored Regiment.
Regards
