I would like to keep my GPW away from ladies names as they are very common...Of course I like them but no for my jeep.

As I´m planning to paint my jeeop with markings of the 3Armored Division, 32nd Armor Regiment, I will paint the name ORIOLE over the rear wheel arches.
ORIOLE was the Radio Call sign of the 32nd Armored Regiment.

It probably wouldn't be advisable to use a radio call sign. It would give the enemy too much information.

While fighting in Korea, my uncle's wwii jeep was christened 'Wheezy.' His wife's name is Louise. It was painted by hand on the windshield frame, passenger side. My wife's name is Gigi, so...

When my father in law Joe (Gold Hill) was restoring the 42 GPW I got from him, he found "Flatbush Aggie" under the many layers of paint. It was done in stencil. After restoration, I named my jeep for the 803rd TD BN, who in WW2 was made up of WA Army National Guard Soldiers. I retired recently from the Guard, so named the jeep in honor of them. I had a friend hand paint the TD emblem on, then do "Flatbush Aggie" on too. They look good together I think!

I was driving home my GPW the very day I bought it, and my wife, who was driving the support car behind me, dared complaining that the old lady's exhaust was "darn stinky" . You know, poor thing, she had never smelled the exhaust of real engines, the ones without catalytic converter, burning leaded fuel and maybe some castor oil or any other stuff like that......

So, though maybe not 100% WWII original, I selected a suitable skunk image, asked my younger son to draw it under the windshield and christened the GPW "Old lil' stinker". A real family affair.

In WWII, the 32nd Armor Regiment was activated at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana in 1941....why not go with something like "Ragin' Cajun" since it honors the Great State of Louisiana where the outfit got its start?

Hi Chuck , I really like that line...nicknames related with relevant places for the 32nd.

There are a lot of references to think about for a nickname on this original 1945 book

By the way...what does it means "Ragin´" ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cajun

rage = like to go nuts
raging = going nuts
ragin' = a spelling that rhymes better with Cajun....
Do a little googling on each word and the two together...

Also the team name of the football squad at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Also since Louisiana has a French history and celebrates Mardi Gras in New Orleans (named after a place in France), having the jeep with a pseudo-French connection in France in WWII is another link.

Especially if say, the driver was from Louisiana or was a French-Canadian for instance...or a Free-French soldier who had lived in Louisiana or parts of Canada.

I hand painted "Marie" on my '44 GPW. My wife and 3 year old daughter share the same middle name. Plus it helped my wife with accepting the late nights I spent in the barn working on it. :D

Good idea, TwoCar. Even if what I am going to write might look like a joke, it is actually is not: I could have done the same with the Italian equivalent "Maria". It is my second name, the third name of my brother (in Latin countries like Italy and Spain it is quite common for males), the first name of my sister and the middle name of my wife, too.

P.S. : Interesting frame number the one of the VEP GPW in your signature. As I posted in the topic "GPW & MB motor exchange / trade", my engine is 3704 - if you happen locate somewhere an engine no more than 400 numbers to my frame 140720 we could think of a deal......

What if it was a HQ company? Would it start with an H?
