Re: Alternate Fire Extinguisher Mounting Places
Lloyd,
I will look through my photos but I have seen them mounted on,
1) The left fender slope,
2) Next to the drivers seat on the wheel arch
3) On the rear of the front passanger seat

Re: Alternate Fire Extinguisher Mounting Places
Farrell,
That is a great photo of the extinguisher mounted behind the seat, I have one of the same location (different Jeep) somewhere on a disc I saved it to but as I didn't note which one I cannot locate it. I am sure you have helped Lloyd out & I shall keep looking.

Re: Alternate Fire Extinguisher Mounting Places
I think that is a decontamination apparatus not a FE.
Certainly the FE mounted to the side of the clutch pedal makes it difficult to operate the dip switch, and you could use more space to rest your foot; also in the event of a fire, I find it is not the quickest thing to de-mount.
I am thinking about moving mine to one of the fenders.

Re: Alternate Fire Extinguisher Mounting Places
The purpose of having an FE on the jeep is two-fold....first of all, because they came with them...and secondly, because in case of a fire they come in rather handy.
To address the mounting of the original, WWII issued FE (empty of course!), you can put it where it was factory mounted but as noted above, not only is there little room for your big fat feet, getting to the dimmer switch is not easy.
As far as actually having to use one in case of a fire on your jeep, that's the second worst place to put it (under the hood being the worst in case of an engine fire!).
I think the best scenario is a combination of both....if you are a Factory Class guy, then put it where is should be. If you are a "Field Mod" guy, make more room for those big fat feet and mount it elsewhere. If you don't have a Decontaminator then under the pass seat on the floor at the riser will still give you room to stash your top and W/C. Storing it so no one getting in/out damages it is an issue so the fender mount looks pretty good to me. The back-of-the-seat location is OK unless you plan to carry passengers as it becomes a "hand-hold" for them or a fall hazard if it catches on gear or clothing.
The best choice here is a modern, after-market FE or two you carry safely in one of the tool boxes. It will be away from the source of 99% of the fires on your jeep and unless you lock the tool boxes you can get to it pretty fast. The biggest problem I see is a gasoline fire (from a leaking flexible gas line perhaps or an overflowing Carburetor onto the exhaust manifold which might make it HOT to get the hood latches open and the hood up without getting yourself torched at the same time.
Of course, mounting an original or where to carry a modern FE is up to you...
