Hi Bob,

Heres some pics of a mirror bracket i made up for my gpw. It is out of 1"x
1/8" (approx) flat bar, bent to shape. If you want, i can take measurements of the angles, but when i made it, it was just a case of have a go and see how it worked out!

It is mounted behind the thumb screw on the bracket from the outer winscreen frame where the slide arm sits to open the innner frame. It was SIMPLE to make, comes off in a split second and works great. What i also like is i didnt need to drill any holes in the jeep AT ALL! The mirror is the standard round mirror as used on the mirror arm on the drivers side.

I find i get great visibility of what is beside me when i am in traffic, and particuarly being a LHD vehicle in a RHD country, it makes it even more important having it there- especially when the roof is up.

I feel when the roof is down, i get just as good a visibility as anything which could be mounted in the centre of the inner frame as others have shown.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Ian.
Ian Fawbert.

A couple of hours ago I spoke with the gentleman on the hood, Jarvis Taylor of D Company. I told him that all the Jeep geeks loves the photo because of the rear view mirror, but also notified him that the "Jeep Police" may be looking for him. He got a kick out of that and told me to say hi to everyone on the forum.

hello,
if you get a chance to speak to him (jarvis) again, would you please ask him if remembers who was sitting in the back seat at the time of the photo was taken. you can see the outline of the persons ear in the rear window. it would be interesting to find out.

I certainly will. Must have been 3 guys in the Jeep including the Photographer. Do you know anyone in Company D?

I was able to buy an original mirror for my GPW so I mounted the repro that was on it to the windshield center hole. I tapped the hole. I noticed that the repro stem was longer and it allows the wiper arm to go behind it. Wipers work great and when pushed all the way to the left the screw on back of the mirror keeps my wiper from moving down on bumps. No bracket needed. I have no idea where the repro mirror came from because it was on the jeep when I bought it. David Croft

Hi Bob, I checked the other windshield frame that I own and it did not have one. I must say I have really never noticed it. Maybe some one out there has an idea why it is there. David

Can't say why an MB would have or need one, but CJ-2A have one there. It is dual-purpose:
    1) it holds the front end of the center support tube for the soft top
    2) it's the hold-down strap loop for windshield when folded down
Early CJ used a bent rod, later used a footman loop. Both were welded to the frame.

You asked for a photo of the other two guys. The one that took the photo of Jarvis, and the "shadow" in the back seat of the Jeep. Well, here you are!!! And of course the rear view mirror again....

Looks like the new forum-format cuts the right side of the photo when using a linked in photo. So I have resized it to show both the guy in back seat and the photographer. They wereon their way to take over a German radar installation in Oslo.
