Bob,

A round mirror can easily be fitted to the windshield allowing the canvas to be used and the wipers to work. The same thing seems to have been done during the war.

Bob,

It's a stock mirror as fitted to the side of the jeep (Ron does a good repro for $20.00 + S&H). All I did was make a 3" long strap out of a 1/8" x 3/4" piece I had lying around. Drill a hole at either end and use the centre fixing screw in the windshield to hold it in place. This way you can have the canvas up without it affecting the new interior mirror.

A round convex mirror of the type used on heavy trucks works well, especially with the top down. A black one can be sprayed OD.

The M38A1 had a windshield mount rear view mirror. Weld on a nut and it should thread right to it.

The Rouge is still there. In fact, they've built a new assembly plant that produces pickups. The Highland Park plant has been partially torn down, but the six story main building still stands and is used for storage.

I don't think anyone could argue against a period civilian or military rear view mirror being fitted as they could have been appropriated from any available vehicle found as the armies advanced.
