No way for a safe identification without pictures, as either winch (and parts) can be mounted on either jeep.

Almost every part of the two winch setups is different, but exchangeable.

Hi guys,
I have mentioned this before, although maybe not here. I have a catalog from a war surplus company listing jeep winch kits and 6 x footman loops are listed. An opinion has been expressed that they fitted on the front left fender and were used to secure the rope. This could be so but is there any proof?

The fender mounted winch rope drawing above is from my original factory blue print that I posted on this subject back in 2009. The original blue print does have dimensions for the spacing of the footman loops. I could try to post a clearer picture if the dimensions are needed by any?

Hi Gary,
I for one would find that really handy and any dimensions for the straps, if any are there.

Thanks Gary25 and Illustr8r.

Could you check the drawing for date drawn? I would be very interested to see whether this was WWII or postwar. Thanks for the drawing that you have posted.

I have just scrapped a CJ2A... It had a capstan winch mounting plate along with the original Caution plate, and the proper crankshft pulley... These are all in excellent condition.. No other parts were on the jeep when I got it...My question is... are the MB and Cj2a plates the same ? Also, since I don't have the rest of the winch I'm considering selling these items... What is a fair value ? I can be reached at OMalleyWR@AOL.com .. or here.. Mark O
Check them out here: http://www.1942willys.com/Braden_Capstan_Winch.html Click on the photos and you will see the parts breakdowns.

Since the drawing shows part of a glove box door, and "T" windshield hold-downs (though wrongly positioned), doesn't appear to be a CJ depicted.

Drawing date would be interesting to know. Measures for footman loop placements of more interest to me, if anyone might share.

Thanks!

Although maybe not for the CJ, maybe it was a post war design for the many MB/GPW's that were still in use (up to Korea?). I personally like the way it was laid out there on the fender and always wondered where they put the dang rope. I have seen the drawing before but never really got into the details.

Truth be told, this is still the coolest of accessories whether WWII or not.

Can someone tell me where I can get a detailed mounting diagram and lists of parts for the Braden.
Is there a TM ?

All I have is a bad photocopy from the Becker. I'd like to see ALL the parts and see HOW it goes together.

I imagine winches have some kind of clutch or slip gear that don't effect the engine idle if the winch blocks or stops. How does this work on the Braden ?

I think I've found a J2 head to get started but would like a bit more info before laying out the cash. I have a '44 MB. Is there anything specific I should look out for.

Still looking for a video showing one in action...
