Yes I have no doubt that all the stretched jeeps were GI field mods ! If you look closely you can see where the pictured jeeps were cut and spliced together....
Since I had my first stretched jeep I have heard a handful of stories why they were done.....some stories good, others a little far fetched but amybe true ?
The first one I had was a Willys that was 3' 2" stretched... a little too long for my taste. 5 months later found this one actually at Tower Park going on three years ago now....the cleanest one out of the two plus this one is a GPW with matching engine and frame #'s so this one wins !!!
The AAF were the best I think - the Coast Guard jeeps were a little crude looking but I'm sure did the trick for what they wanted out of it. 2'6" is the perfect length I think plus you have period pic's to back it up....you can get 4 single seats and a bench in it or 2 singles and two bench....it will be fun - I have a lot of little things to do and beings that it's a field mod and that really no one has seen one up close and personal....anything goes ! Mix and match parts and no one will be able to say anything and be able to back it up

off limits to the jeep police I guess you could say !
