Solex carbi for off road

Postby Michael Browne » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:37 am

Hi All,

Has anyone tried the Solex carbi on a jeep for serious off-roading :?:

I have had no trouble with the standard Carter when off-roading, even that much of a lean I was sitting on the hip pad and still able to drive along. :)

Open to any advice from people who have tried them out.

Thanks

Hi Mike, I have had a Solex on my jeep sense I rebuilt it. Ran fine. Had trouble with fuel not getting to carb sometimes. Rebuilt my WO Carter, Better response on acceleration. Just works better. Just my 2 cents .

Hi Micheal,

I am a keen and long term occasional 4WDer of my '42 GPW. It has had a Holden Stromberg (HD/HR, I think) carby with adjustable main jet fitted for many years. Goes like a beauty, and very steep work, up, down, left or right does not seem to bother it at all. There is a youtube video of it in the steep country, search MJCQ + 2008. Mine is the desert sand coloured jeep.
Enjoy.
Sam.
